Penner, John F.

Harvey County Independent

John F. Penner, 80, Newton, father of Marlow Penner of Sedgwick, died Friday, October 19, 2001 at Newton Medical Center. He was born September 27, 1921 at Corn, Oklahoma, son of Frank and Sarah Zielkie Penner.

He married Laura A. Nachtigal, who died in September of 1971. He married Florence M. Stone December 1, 1972 in Newton, she died May 16, 2000. He married Annabel Holderman Strother September 1, 2001 in Newton. She survives.

He was a member of the First Baptiost Church; the Newton Nomads; Veterans of Foreign Wars; the American Legion; Sunchasers, all of Newton and Springlake Resort, rural Halstead.

He was a combat veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific during World War II.

Survivors: wife; another son, Lyndal Penner, Hutchinson; four daughters, Cheryl Dufriend, Overland Park; Lorene Ely, Phoenix; Barbara Hackney, Newton and Gretchen Gallop, Fort Hood, Texas; two brothers, Jake Penner, Edna and Corny Penner, Dinuba, California; 7 sisters, Sarah Penner, Castro Valley, California; Mary Entz, Reedley, California; Minnie Huley, Millington, Tennessee; Susie Kruger, Dinuba, California; Helen Neufeld, Lancaster, California; Martha Peters, Shafter, California and Edna Wall, Colorado Springs; 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church on October 24. Burial was in Restlawn Garden of Memory, Newton.
