Obituary

Mary J. Pownell, 85, Halstead, died Thursday, November 11, 2001 at the Halstead Hospital. She was born May 24, 1916 in Wichita, the daughter of Leonard A. and Mary A. Neulud Clupny. She was a registered nurse for Halstead Hospital and St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

She married Milton Lee Posnell May 10, 1947 at ElDorado. They had lived in Halstead since 19947. He died January 9, 1988.

She was a member of the Catholic faith. She was a veteran of World Sar II, having served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.

Survivors: two sons, Lee, of Newton and Dave of Manhattan, daughter-in-law Ruth Alexander, rural Halstead; two brothers, Al Clupny, Wichita and Richard Clupny, Garden Plain; two sisters, Anna Tredway, Kansas City, Missouri and Pauline Mead, Lancaster, Texas; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, John Pownell; two brothers, Pete Clupny and Leonard Clupny and two sisters, Helen Petersen and Agnes Frangenberg.

Christian Burial mass was held Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial followed at Halstead Cemetery. American Legion Post 231 provided a military service at the cemetery.
