Thomas, Jerry M.

Harvey County Independent

Jerry M. Thomas, 60, Newton, formerly of Sedgwick, brother of Allen Thomas and Mabel Stamback, Sedgwick, died Sunday, February 18, 2001 at Newton Medical Center. He was born on December 5, 1940 at Sedgwick, son of William Blaine and Naomi Behymer Thomas.

He was a forklift operator and shipping department employee at Excel Industries, Hesston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the VFW, the Eagles Lodge, and the American Legion, all of Newton. He was an avid NASCAR fan and greatly enjoyed following Jeff Gordon's Career.

Other survivors include two sons, Bradley Thomas, Louisville, Kentucky and Brent Thomas, Newton; daughter, Christina Fowler, North Bend, Nebraska; brother, Bill Thomas, Augusta; two sisters, Beverly Hilberling, Owasso, Oklahoma and Norma Preston, Newton; companion, Carol Cornwell, Newton; 14 grandchildren and 2 great grand-children.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Thomas and a sister, Judy Spencer.

Services were held at Salem United Methodist Church, Newton on February 22 with burial in the Hillside Cemetery.
