Williams, Vera Mae Winsky

Vera Mae Williamms, 85, Newton, formerly of rural Halstead, died Sunday, June 17, 2001 at Halstead Hospital. She was born December 6, 1915 in rural Halstead, daughter of Albert and Alice M. Chapple Winsky. She attended Garden Vallley Grade School No. 43 through the 8th grade.
On September 13, 1934, she married Carl Ewy. He preceded her in death on September 12, 1941. She then met Moreland Carr Williams, a U.S. Army Air Force Sargeant, stationed in Salina. They were married on October 14, 1944 in the Baptist Church Parsonage, Kansas City. He survives of the home. During the earliest years of marriage to Moreland, they moved from base to base and finally settled in Newton.
She was a former member of the Calvary Church, Moundridge, and currently a member of the Meredian Baptist Church, and was active as a Sunday School teacher and Awana's Club volunteer. She was a member of the Gideon's International Auxiliary since 1952 holding several state cabinet posts and positions. She had been employed as a clerk and cook at the PX's at the various air force bases where Moreland was stationed, a Stanley dealer and she was a clerk at Penner's Grocer, Moundridge and Roese Market, Newton from 1971 to 1991.
Other survivors: two sons, Victor Eugene Ewy, Clarion, Pennsylvania and David Williams, ElDorado; daughter, Marilyn Mae Ewy Boese, Newton; three brothers, Albert Johnny "AJ" Winsky, Halstead; Orville Winsky, Moundridge; Richard Winsky, Newton; 15 grandchildren and many great grand children.
She was preceded in death by a son, Norman Dale Williams; brother, Marlow Winsky; sister, Hesper Winsky Diringer and grandsonk Jeremiah Carr.
Services will be June 21 at Meridian Baptist Church, Newton. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
