Bisoni, Johnnie

Giovanni (Johnnie) Bisoni, 91, died Wednesday, Septembe 28, 2002 at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center in Halstead. He was born December 23, 1910 at West Mineral, Kansas, son of Louis and Margherita (Morrozzo) Bisoni.

He married Margaret Belle Humiston on September 29, 1937 at Madison, Kansas, a marriage that lasted more than 60 years before her death in 1998.

He managed a grocery store in Madison before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1942. He received an honorable discharge April 28, 1945. Upon his dischsrge, he purchased a store and moved to Halstead in 1945. He and his wife, Margaret, were the owners of Peoples Cash Grocery in Halstead for over 40 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 231 and past member of Halstead Lions and Masons; served as the secretary-treasurer of the Halstead Cowboys, a semi-pro baseball program in Halstad in the 60's and 70's.

He ran the concession stand at the ball diamond for the American Legion for nearly 25 years. His son-in-law, Gary Davison, played some for the Cowgoys in the 60's and his grandchildren helped sample the snow cones, cotton candy, pickled eggs, dill pickles, popcorn, hot dogs, etc.

Survivors: three sons, David J., Jacksonville, Florida; Ray Alan, West Haven, Utan and Danny B., Newton; daughter, Marjean Davison, Halstead; 7 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Margaret on March 20, 1998; daughter, Connie Ruth Bisoni; two brothers, Antonio Bisoni and Enrico Bisoni; sister, Maria Bisoni Cummings and infant sister, Meyhe Bisoni.

Services were held at the Church September 23 with Rev. Jim Bush presiding. Burial was in Halstead Cemetery with military service conducted by the Halstead American Legion.
