Michael D. "Duane" Cox

Harvey County Independent

Michael D. "Duane" Cox, 56, Sedgwick, died July 21, 2002 at Liberal. He was born April 28, 1946 in Wichita, son of Derald and Ethel Louise Bristow Cox.

He was a graduate from Kansas State University with a bachelor of science degree in biology. He was the owner of Leash Associates, Sedgwick and a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Wichita; was president of the Woodlin Polo Club, Andover and enjoyed polo, hunting and watching his children's sporting events.

He served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam as a lance corporal. He received the national defense service metal, Vietnam service medal with one star, Republic of Vietnam campaigne medal with device, and the rifle expert badge.

On August 18, 1978, he married Karen Stahl in Wichita. She survives. Other survivors: son, Zachary Jared Cox, Sedgwick; daughter, Kendal Blaire Cox, Sedgwick; mother, Ethel Louise Darling, Wichita; two brothers, Steve Coox, Vega, Texas and Jeffrey Cox, Haysville; two sisters, Diane Adams, Wichita and Sheri Bauer, Azusa, Calaifornia and two stepbrothers, John Darling and Ron Darling, both of Denver, Colorado.

Serivces were held July 26 at the church with Rev. Jeffrey Crane presiding. Graveside Service was in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton.
