Obituary

Dwight Keller McFarlane, 86, Derby, brother of Ada Lehman, Halstead, died Sunday, March 3, 2002 at the Mt. Hope Nursing Center in Mt. Hope. He was born October 26, 1915 at Newton, son of Albert and Ella White McFarlane. He grew up and attended school in Harvey County and graduated from Newton High School.

On August 28, 1940, he married Jean Simonson at Halstead. She preceded him in death August 10,1980. He married Mabel Burkey on September 17, 1983. She preceded him in death May 15, 2001 at Beloit.

He was a retired contract machinist, tool/die maker and truck driver. He was a 60 year Mason and longtime Shrine member. In the early 1940's he was mayor of Derby.

Other survivors: two daughters, Sharon Burke, Gainsville, Georgia and Sharlot Van Deest, Haysville; one son, Ken McFarlane, Georgetown, Texas; three stepsons, Don Burkey, Beloit; Jim Burkey, Santa Barbara California and Bob Burkey, Mountain View, Hawaii; one brother, Andrew McFarlane, San Leandro, California; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel McFarlane; brother, Jay McFarlane and four sisters, Mabel Boller, Fayanna Zimmerman, Donna White and Lillian Lukensmeyer.

Services were held March 9 at Smith Mortuary, Derby, with internment at noon in the Halstead Cemetery.
