Obituary

William C. "Bill" Mierau, 82, former Halstead resident and father of Bill Mierau, Halstead, died March 1, 2002 at Andover Health Care Center. He was born July 6, 1919 in Halstead, the son of William Henry and Amelia Bahr Mierau. He was the retired owner of W. C. Mierau Construction Company, Wichita. He married Louise Preuss on Janury 23, 1949.

He was a 1st Lieutenant in World War II and a forward observer in the 273rd Field Artillery. He was a graduate of Kansas State University with a degree in civil engineering.

He was a memberof First Presbyterian Church, Wichita; the Golden Wheat Chapter of the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia and several civic organizaations of Wichita.

Other survivors: his wife of the home in Wichita; a daughter, Connie Johnson and her husband, Ed, rural Valley Center; daughter-in-law, Sharon Mierau, Halstead; sister, Edith Hadle, Manhattan; 3 grandchildren.

Services were held March 4 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wichita. Graveside services were held at Halstead Cemetery with military honors by the United States Army 2/70 Armor, Fort Riley.
