Schauf, Ernest Francis

Harvey County Independent

Ernest Francis Schauf, 72, rural Newton, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at Via Christi Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, Wichita. He was born November 9, 1929 at Clonmel, Kansas, son of Leo and Pauline Becker Schauf. He was a farmer and had lived at rural Newton since 1958. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Marine Corps.

He married Edna Ann Hartman on May 21, 1955 at Conway Springs. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Halstead and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 971 Newton.

Survivors: wife, Ann Schauf of the home; two sons, Gene Schauf, Newton and Tim Schauf, Halstead; two daughters, Kathy Crawford, Halstead and Lori Newland, Edmond, Oklahoma; 4 brothers, Edwin Schauf, Burden; Herman Schauf, Wichita; Robert Schauf, Oklahoma City and Pete Schauf, Liberal; 4 sisters, Delores Drane, Shell Knob, Missouri; Marcy Leppke and Erma Schuster, both of Wichita and Maxine Henning, Kaufman, Texas and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Norbert Schauf, Tony Schauf and Eugene Schauf and infant sister, Marcella.

Mass of Christian Burial was September 7 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial iin the Halstead Cemetery.
