Grover, E. F.

Death Sunday evening claimed E. F. Grover, 84, Burrton's oldest merchant, who succumbed his home after an illness of seven weeks.

Active until his illnesss, Mr. Grover was stricken at his store Friday morning, December 22 and although he rallied several times during the weeks which followed, he was unable to recover from the effects of several cerebral hemorrhages. He died at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 3 days.

He moved to Kansas with his parents from New York state in 1879. They settled in a farm southeast of Burrton, where he lived untio November 14, 1894 when he entered the grocery business in Burrton, in which he was actively engaged until the time of his illness.

On Janury 17, 1893, he was united in marriage with Mary Ann Wilson. To this union six chidren were born; Charles, Harry and Mrs. A. W. Metschke of Burrton; Clarence of Salina; Mrs. Clancy Brown, Halstead and Mrs. G. B. Warner of Garden Ciy.

He was a member of the Burrton Methodist church and the Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Grover started his first store in Burrton in 1894 and in 1944 celebrated his fiftieth anniversary of being in business here. His first store was in the building where the Noggle Jewelry store is now located, and his second in the building where the KG&E is now. In 1910 he purchased the building where the present Grover store is located.



Funeral services for Mr. Grover were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 in the Methodist church with Rev. M. J. Duncan of Hutchinson and Rev. Glenn Matthew in charge. Burial was in the Burrton Cemetery.
