Pitzer, Benjamin S.

The death of B. S. Pitzer, Civil War veteran and memberof Burrton GAR occured at Eskridge, Kansas, Monday, February 9, 1925. The body arrived here Tuesday, accompanied by his daughter, Miss Nannie Pitzer, Mrs. Amos Barrows and Mrs. E. P. Barrows.

Benjamin Sedwick Pitzer was born near Farmington, Marion County, West Virginia on October 5, 1842. He enlisted at the beginning of the war in Co. A, 6th West Virginia Infantry where he served 3 years. At the close of the war, he moved to Iowa and from there to Kansas, which state had since been his home.

On January 29, 1973 he was united in marriage to Druscilla C. Hunt of Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, who preceded him in death on June 25, 1917. To this union was born two daughters, Mrs. Belle Barrows of Sedgwick and Miss Nannie Pitzer at home, who had been a dutiful daughter and nurse in all her fathers afflictions.

Mr. Pitzer was converted and united with the church when 45 yers of age. He was of a cheerful disposition, always trying to help others along life's journey.

Services were held at the home Tuesday morning and burial was in Burrton Cemetery.
