Gehrer, Amy Jones

Burrton Graphic

Amy Jones Gehrer, youngest daughter of Mr. & Mrs. L. G. Jones, pioneer residents of the Burrton community, died Tuesday, February 6 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was a member of Burrton Presbyterian Church until it disbanded..

Following graduation from Burrton High School, she took business trainiing in Wichita. On completing the course, she later became secretary and office manager for the E. B. Shawyer Drilling Company in the Petroleum Building, Wichita. She held this position for 30 years, retiring in 1959.

Concerned with the interests of her home town, she helped to organize the State Bank of Burrton, which opened in May 1947. She became a member of the Bank's Board of directors, holding that position from the bank's opening until her death.

She died Monday night, February 5, in Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, of an illness which her doctors described as being extremely rare. Since research is needed to identify the virus which causes it, and to develop a vaccine to combat it, any friends who wish to contribute to a fund for this purpose may leave their donations at the State Bank of Burrton, in care of Mr. Judd Durner.

Survivors: her widower, a step-son, Michael Gehrer of the U. S. Air Force; step-daughter, Mrs. Patricia Lewandowski, Seattle; two brothers, Lloyd T. Jones, Hutchinson and Ted E. Jones, Burrton; three sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Williams, Narrows, Virginia; Mrs. Lilian V. McKee, Wichita; Miss Edith Hones, Burrton.

Services were held February 9 in the Byrd-Snodgrass Mortuary, Wichita. Burial was in the Burrton Cemetery.
