Jerome, Amanda M.

Mrs. Amanda Jerome passed away early Wednesday morning, February 11, 1970. Mr. & Mrs. Warren Jerome bought the Graphic and job shop, moving here from Hutchinson in 1902. Mr. Jerome died in 1934. Mrs. Jerome ran the paper for the next four years with the help of her daughter, Claytie. In 1938, Mrs. Jerome sold out to Mr. & Mrs. Frank Hensley.

Amanda M. Jerome was born September 7, 1878 in Muncie, Indiana, the youngest daughter of Charles Peason Driscoll and Clarabelle Driscoll and departed this life at Hutchinson, Kansas on February 11, 1970, age 91 years, 5 months, 4 days.

She came to Kansas with her widowed mother at the age of three years and had been a continuous resident since that time. On May 27, 1896 she married William Warren Jerome and they came to Burrton to make their home in 1902. She was a member of the Burrton Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star, and for many years, a tireless worker for the progress of the Burrton community.

One granddaughter, Dorothy May Hoskinson, preceded her in death on June 7, 1943.

Survivors: son, Lt. Gen. Clayton C. Jerome USMC (Ret) and Mrs. Jerome of Alexandria, Virginia and daughter, Claytie Hoskinson of Burrton; 3 grandchildren.

Services were held at the Church in Burrton with burial in the Burrton Cemetery.
