Ramon “Hud” Gomez, 68, passed away on Sunday (March 4, 2012) in Wichita.
He was born on Sept. 19, 1943, in Newton, the son of Pilar and Josephine (Garcia) Gomez. Ramon worked most of his life as a concrete layer at places such and Prestressed Concrete. Later in life, Ramon was disabled. He spent much of his time staying busy helping others. He loved watching college basketball, and he was an avid KU fan. Ramon was a hardworking, kind, compassionate, funny man who always put people, especially family, before himself. He will be deeply missed by the people who loved him and many others in the community.
Survivors include a son, Anthony Gomez and family of Phenix City, Ala.; four daughters, Monique Gomez (Chris) of Wichita, Bobbie Gomez (Eleazar) of Wichita, Amanda Gomez (Russell) of Kansas City, Mo., and Ashley Huerta (Brad) of Newton; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Dolores Rodriguez (Juan) of Newton and Frances Martinez (Lupe) of Newton. He was preceded in death his parents and one sister, Elsie Snapp.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A Rosary will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Newton. A funeral mass will be at noon, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Newton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left with Monique Gomez for the Ramon Gomez memorial fund, in care of Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N. Main St., Newton, KS 67114.
