Trost, Viola

The Newton Kansan

Viola A. Neufeld Hiebert Trost, 84, died on Sunday (March 4, 2012) at Newton Presbyterian Manor.

She was born on Oct. 31, 1927, in McPherson to Henry R. and Anna (Hiebert) Neufeld. On Aug. 3, 1951, she married Ralph J. Hiebert, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1982. She later married Harold Trost on Nov. 18, 1990, at Grace Community Church in Newton, and he also preceded her in death. Viola was baptized in First Mennonite Church in Newton by the Rev. J.E. Entz on May 28, 1934. Viola was a founding member of Grace Community Church in Newton and also worked as the church secretary. Viola enjoyed spending time with her loving family and many friends.

Viola is survived by her brother, Menno and Dorothy Neufeld of Marion; sisters, Edith and Floyd Flickinger of McPherson and Leona and Leland Goering of Moundridge; stepson, Randy Trost of Concordia; and stepdaughters, Judy Carlgren of Scandia, Ann Lanoue of Concordia and Sue Barnett of Sedan. Viola was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Ralph Hiebert and second husband, Harold Trost; sister, Clara Voth; and two brothers, Rudolph and Alvin Neufeld.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton, with the family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Community Church in Newton, with Pastor David Reimer presiding. Burial will be at 10 a.m. at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural Newton.
Memorials are suggested to Newton Presbyterian Manor or Good Shepherd Hospice, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
