Welch, Alice
The Burrton Monitor
Alice Rose (Kerns) Welch, was born in New Lisbon, Columbiana County, Ohio, Sept. 23d 1827, died in Burrton, Harvey County, Kansas, July 12th, 1884, aged 56 years, 9 months, and 19 days.
She was married to I. M. Welch, Dec. 16th, 1858. She was converted and joined the M. E. Church in 1868, since which time she lived a practical, every day Christian life. A little over six years ago, she came with her husband and settled in the vicinity of Burrton.
Many of our citizens in these six years learned to love and respect her high moral character and Christian deportment.
Sister Welch has for years suffered from repeated attacks of crysipelas which finally culminated in an abscess of the right ear, involving the base of the brain. For the past six months she has been a constant sufferer. It would be impossible for tongue to tell, pen to describe or pencil paint what she passed through, yet she patiently bore it all without a murmer, telling the writer not long before her death, that her trust was in Jesus. She died without a struggle, supported by the hand of Jesus as she crossed the cold valley of death.
The funeral at the M. E. Church was largely attended. Both orders of the A. O. U. W. of which Mr. Welch is a member, out of respect attended in a body. Funeral services were conducted by the Pastor of the M. E. Church. Sermon from St. John 11:1-6.
