The Evening Kansan-Republican

Was A Retired Farmer
G. H. Judd Had Lived Here Only A Few Months.

California Was Their Home Until Last July – Had Previously Lived in Lyon County.

The sympathies of the many readers of the Kansan were aroused last evening upon reading of the death of G. H. Judd which occurred in the Santa Fe yards yesterday morning as a result of being struck and run over by an engine. Mr. Judd had lived here but a few months and as a retired farmer had made many friends only in a quiet way, but his widow has found many kind hearts to sympathize with her in her grief. Mr. and Mrs. Judd came here from California last July having traded their orange ranch there for Newton property hoping to be near the larger part of their children. They had lived in Kansas from 1886 until 1889 owning a ranch in north Lyon county to which place they had come from Illinois. Mr. Judd was born in Michigan but had come to Illinois when but a child. There he married Miss Florence Kilborn in 1864, their union being blessed with five children, three sons and two daughters. In 1874 the family moved to Iowa and lived there until they came to Kansas. Carl K. Judd, an Emporia attorney, is here to comfort and help his mother and Mrs. Minerva Patterson of Leoti and Mrs. Nellie Cibulski of Wichita county. Two other sons, Fred H. of Idaho and Walter G. of California are unable to come. The funeral will be held at the home on East Fifth street tomorrow afternoon between two and three o’clock. Elder Honhart of the Seven Day Adventists association officiating. The interment will be made in the Newton cemetery.
