Obituary

Samuel Atkins was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania on the 16th of September, 1826. He was married to Susan Walker in 1847. From this union sprung a family of eight children, four boys and four girls. The family moved to Illinois in 1856. After a sojourn there of about fourteen years, three daughters were lain to rest, the family moved to Kansas, locating on the present homestead in the spring of 1871. January 6, 1972 the partner of his joys and sorrows passed away in the firm belief in the joys of the future. In the year of 1887 Mr. Atkins embraced religion and has since tried to live nearer God each day.

He died suddenly being found dead in bed Tuesday morning, June 23, 1891 at the age of 64 years, 9 months, 7 days.
