Grimwood, Donald D.

Harvey County Independent

Donald D. Grimwood, 81 of Wichita, died Thursday, September 23, 2004 at Presbyterian Manor Healthcare Center, Wichita. He lived in Wichita since 1986 and was a lifetime Sedgwick resident prior to that.

He was born July 26, 1923 at Newton, son of Thomas Jerry and Henrie Lou Young Grimwowod. He was president of Sedgwick State Bank and a member of First Christian Church, Sedgwick, serving as church elder, deacon, treasurer and choir member. He was past commander of Hicks-Davison American Legion Post 268 Sedgwick, a former Sedgwick City Councilman, city treasurer, school board member and Sedgwick Booster Club member. He also held leadership positions in several other community organizations.

He was a U. S. Army European Theater veteran in World War II, serving as a medic. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

He married Dorothy Mae Nelson on June 8, 1947 at Lindsborg, Kansas. She died November 23, 1978. He then married Lucille Tinsley Honn on June 14, 1980 at Sedgwick. She survives of the home.

Other survivors: son, James Grimwood and wife, Barbara of Manhattan, Kansas; daughters, Jean Ann Moorman and husband, Harry of Sedgwick; Mary J. Fox and husband Gary of Norwalk, Iowa; two stepsons, Larry Honn and wife, Barbara of Rising Sun, Indiana and Mark Honn of Boise, Idaho; one stepdaughter, Judy Staufer and husband, Darel of Boise, Idaho; one brother, Lee Grimwood, Sedgwick; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren. A brother, Gordon Grimwood preceded him in death.

Services were held September 27 at the Church. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick, with military honors by the Fort Riley Color Guard.
