Obituary

Vesta L. Olney, 88, Newton, mother of Peg Koehn, rural Halstead, died Febrruary 15, 2004 at Friendly Acres Retirement Community, Newton.

She was born December 15, 1915 at Furley, daughter of Issac "Ike" and Jessie P. Sloop Everett. She grew up in Furley where whe attended school. She was a cook in restaurants and a counselor at United Methodist Youthville, Newton, retiring in 1968. She belonged to United Church of Christ, Sedgwick and the church guild and was a former member of the YWCA.

On March 25, 1935 whe maarried Harold R. Olney. He preceded her in death September 14, 1961 .

Survvors: two sons, William R. "Bill" Olney, Newberry, Conn. and Joe H. Olney, Newton; two other daughters, Jessie Kahle, Americus and Edith "Edie" Baker, Elk Falls; brother, Floyd Everett, North Las Vegas, Nevada; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nyra Huffman and stepbrother, Glenn Everett.

Services were held February 17 at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
