Charlsen, Charles W. "Bud"

Harvey County Independent

Charles W. "Bud" Charlsen, 77, Newton, died February 20. 2005 at Newton Medical Center. He was born September 6, 1927 to Charles and Faye Crobarger Charlsen in Newton.

Bud worked at Century Clothing, while attending Wichita State University. He was employed by Railroad Savings and Loan for 41 years before his retirement in 1997. He was active in the Elks, American Legion, VFW, Optimist Club, Harvey County Health Ministries and the Episcopal Social Services payee program. He was also active in local bowling leagues and in several golf leagues. He was involved in Junior Legion baseball, coaching several teams during the 1970's. He liked fixing up houses and helped many friends and family do the same. He enjoyed watching and following all of his grandchildren's activiities.

On November 2, 1972, he married Shirley Stauffer-Flory at Newton. She survives of the home.

Other survivors: son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Charla Charlsen, Newton; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Robin Charlsen, Littleton, Colorado; son and daughter-in-law Wes and Julie Flory, Halstead; son and daughter-in-law Kurt and Cindy Flory of Wilmette, Illinois; daughter and son-in-law Cyndi and Bruce Barnes, Valley Center; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Joel Koerner, Newton; brother, George Charlsen, Wichita; 18 grandchildren and one great grand child.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Charlsen; sister Georgia Tigner; stepfather Harold Summers; and brother, Timothy Charlsen.

Services were held February 13 at the Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
