Obituary

Vincent Edward Gatz, 76, of Halsted, died May 13, 2005 at his residence. He was born March 9, 1929 atvNewton, to William H. and Lucy M. Bixby Gatz.

On August 27, 1969 he married Susan L. Rees Gilmore at Wichita. She survives of the home.

He was a retired farmer and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton; American Legion Post 231, Halstead and VFW Post 971, Newton, serviing his country from 1955 to 1959.

Other survivors include a daughter, Jacque VanSteenburg, Newton; stepsons, Bryan, Vienna Virginia; Bret Gilmore, Moundridge, Kansas and Brad Gilmore, Wellington, Colorado; brother, Bernard Gatz, Halstad and sisters, Mareta Lies, Kansas City, Kansas; Teresa Sawyer, Cypress, Texas and Margaret Unruh, Andover; five stepgrandchildren and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William "Bill" Gatz.

Services were held May 18 at Kaufman Funeral Home. Rev. Nancy Lambing, Officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton, Kansas.
