Obituary

Sandra "Sandy" J. Martin, 68, or Halstead, died September 23, 2005 at Newton Medical Center. She was born November 11, 1936 at Kansas City, Kansas, the daughter of James and Martha Flipps Bickel. Close to her 5th birthday, she was adopted by Hazel and Jim Barlow of Halstead. She moved in with their family which included three older children.

She graduated from Halstead High Scool in 1954. On March 16,, 19157, she married Lonnie Martin at Halstead. He survives of the hhome.

She was known for her good cooking and hospitality. She loved to have her friends over for challenging games of scrabble around the kitchen table. She had a special place in her heart for animals and was always surrounded by dogs, cats and other assorted pets. She also enjoyed tending to her indoor houseplants and flowers and always looked forward to spending time with her family.

Other survivors: a son, Lonnie Martin II and wife Stacey, Halstead; daughters, Laurie "Jill" Dechant and husband Michael, Ness City and Wendy K. Becker and husband Mark, Halstead; 8 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her birth parents and her adopted parents.

Serevices were held September 26 at Petersen Funeral Home. Burial was in the Halstead Cemetery.
