Robbins, Robert C.

Harvey County Independent

Robert C. Robbins, 83, Newton, father of Rita C. Adams, Sedgwick, died June 21, 2005 at Presbyterian Manor, Newton. He was born September 5, 1921 at Chattanooga, Oklahoma, son of James Orlie and Ella Van Dora Heart Robbins. He was a railroad transportation worker, serving as a railroad car man, switch man and brake man for more than 35 years.

He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a former memmber of the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II as a sergeant in many European campaigns, including Normandy, Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe and received a Purple Heart.

Other survivors: two sons, Robert Steve Robbins and Rodney A. Robbins, both of Newton; brother, George Robbins, The Colony, Texas; sister, Marie Moore, Texas; the mother of his children, Ruth Huebert, Newton; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; a great grandchild and a step-great grandchid.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Robbins; infant son; Alvin Robbins; Kenneth Robbins; Homer Robbins and Clyde Robbins; three sisters, Lena Mae High; Laura Mae Hopkins and Nora Viola Bermany.

Services were held at Petersen Funeral Chapel on June 23 with Chaplain Bill Regier presiding. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials to Alzheimers Association.
