Walker, Donald W.

Harvey County Independent

Donald W. Walker, 78, former owner of Embers Cafe, Halstead, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Heatherwood Village in Newton.

He was born September 2, 1926 to Ralph Robert and Leona Myrtle Wooton Walker in Oilton, Oklahoma. They preceded him in death. He married Velma Jean Warhurst. She preceded him in death May 28, 2003.

He served his country in the Navy for two years during World War II. Don also ran several restaurants in Newton and several Kansas cities throughout the years. He relaxed with his woodworking and fishing and enjoyed traveling with his wife. He had a special fondness for his grandchildren and enjoyed storytelling.

Survivors: five grandchildren; daughterin-law, Treva Robbins, Newton; two sons, Terry Walker and Brad Walker; daughter, Debra Walker; brother, Bob Walker and a great grandchild.

Graveside services were held April 28 at Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Hickerson officiating.
