Obituary

Virginia Catherine McBurney, 96, died July 5, 2006 at Wheatland's Healthcare Center in Kingman, Kansas. She had been a resident there since 2002 after moving from La Mesa, California.

She was born September 19, 1909 in Newton, daughter of Shirley Brooks and Mary Katherine Hetzel Vaughn. She was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, La Mesa, and the Newton Chapter AG, PDO, Newton. She was a 1926 graduate of Newton High school and attended Bethel College and Emporia State Teachers College.

On August 23, 1931, she married Edward C. McBurney at Newton. He died March 9. 1994. Survivors: son, Cleland V. McBurney, Kingman; daughter, Marilyn Jean Grover, San Diego, California; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas E. McBurney and a sister, Elizabeth Smith.

Graveside service and interment were at Halstead Cemetery.
