Miller, Melvin A.

Harvey County Independent

Melvin A. Miller, 59, died April 4, 2006 at his residence in Newton. He was born August 25, 1946 at Halstead, son of Linford and Mary Hensley Miller. They preceded him in death.

He maried Charlotte Steele October 4, 1969 in Burrton, she survives. He retired March 4, 2005 from the Andale Co-op as an agronomy specialist and consultant. He was also a certified crop advisor for the state of Kansas.

He was a member of Sedgwick Christian Church and served as an elder and a deacon for numerous years for Burrton Christian Church. He was a Mason in AF&AM Lodge of Mr. Hope.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in active duty from 1966 - 1968, with time in CuChi, Vietnam. His rank was SP4 in the HHC Supply and Transport Command, 25th Infantry Division and he received an Army Commendation Medal. He also served inactive duty 1969-1972 during the war.

His hobbies included spending time with his family, collecting coins and working in the agriculture and research fields. He loved animals, especially his two cats, Boomer and Gus.

Other survivors: Mark Alan (Amanda) Miller, Battlefield, Missouri; daughter Angelea (Russell) Bell, Baltimore, Maryland; brother, Marvin (Ruth) Miller, Burrton.

Services were held at Sedgwick Christian Church April 6 with Pastor Kim Beckwith officiating. Memorials to Harry Hynes Hospice.
