Morford, Galen E.

Harvey County Independent

Galen E. Morford, 77, died January 6, 2006 at Presbyterian Manor in Newton. He was born June 13, 1928 in Newton, son of Everett and Hazel Jolly Morford. They preceded him in death. He married Connie Reyolds Huffman April 28, 1973 in Newton, she survives.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Newton and a member of the American Legion and the Peace Officers Assn.

He was a former Newton city police officer for 23 years, attaining the rank of lieutenant before being elected as sheriff of Harvey County. He served Haarvey County as sheriff from 1973 until his retirement in 1990. He also was the owner of M&M Printing in Newton during the 1960's.
Prior to his term as sheriff he was a football and basketball official for high school athletics. During his law enforcement career, he eatned many awards and certificates for his work.

Other survivors include sons, Steve Morford, Wichita and Phillip Morford, Newton; stepsohn, Rich Huffman, Newton; daughter, Cheryl McMillan, Evanston, Wyoming; stepdaughter, Michelle Janzen, Newton; sister, Roumel Brown, Deland, Florida; 8 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Morford and Weldon Morford.

Services were held January 11 at First Christian Church. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery.
