Gerald R. "Jerry" Richards, 74, died April 6, 2006 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Hospice, Wichita. He was born January 26, 1932, to Robert and Sophia Fox Richards in Dodge City. They preceded him in death.
He attended college in St. Louis and Wichita and graduated withh a master's of fine arts degree from Fort Hays State University. Jerry taught high school in Syracuse, Kinsley, Elkhart and Peabody. During the summers between his teachiing, Jerry also worked as a carpenter.
He attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. He served his country in the U. S. Army.
Other survivors: sons, Mark and Tonya Richards of Olympia, Washington and Matthew Richards of Goessel; daughter, Maria Richards, Sedgwick; grandson, Cole Richards of Olympia, Washington; sister, Virginia Schierling of Newton; brother, Ron Richards of Larned and four children and several grandchildren from a previous marriage.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Marvin and Truman Richards and a sister, Rosemary Richards.
Services are scheduled for April 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Newton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
