Patrick O'Brien



Died: Patrick O'Brien from infirmities incident to old age. He was born in Ireland in 1822, came to America with parents at age 9, located in Philadelphia, went to Illinois in 1835 where he took a more or less active part in politics. He often mentioned the campaign in which Abraham Lincoln, whom he intimately knew, was defeated for the Illinois Legislature. He came to Garden Township, Harvey Co., Kansas during the grasshopper year of 1874. He served as County Commissioner seven years and one term as Mayor of Halstead as a prominent Democrat. He married Sophia Freil, sister of D. S. and Edward Marcy in 1864. Survivors, four children, Mrs. Edward Rasey, Mrs. Nellie McCart, Charles O'Brien and John C. O'Brien. A Catholic funeral was preformed.
