Wendling, Thomas

Harvey County Independent

Thomas Albert Wendling, 82, rural Halstead, died May 15, 2012 at his home in the bedroom where he was born on November 23, 1929, the son of Felix and Erma King Wendling. He farmed from age 13 until his death. He also became an avid gardener in his later years.

He attended rural School district 34, riding his horse 2 1/2 miles every day. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Halstead. In 2008, Tom and his wife, Norma were named as Halstead Old Settlers King and Queen. He married Norma Penner December 29, 1948 at Newton. She survives of the home.

Other survivors: daughter, Linda Heidebrecht and friend Craig Pecenka, Newton; son, Patrick and wife, Bonnie Wendling, rural Halstead; granddaughter, Shelly Riffel and husband, Kurt, Newton and his loving cat Andrew.'

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leland and Donald and a sister, Marjorie Berger.

Mass of the Christian Burial was May 19 at the Church with Father Stephen Baxter officiating. Burial was at Halstead Cemetery. Memorials to Good Shepjerd Hospice of to the Church.
