Obituary

Joyce J. (Walker) Franklin, 85, died on Friday (June 22, 2012) at Kansas Christian Home in Newton.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1926, in Newton to Aurora E. and Florence R (Stublefield) Walker. She married John Lee Franklin in 1958, and he preceded her in death.

Joyce was a retired Mary Kay Cosmetics representative. She was a graduate of Newton High School and attended Bethel College. She lived in Kansas City for the last 40 years, returning to Newton four years ago to be closer to family. Joyce was a member of the Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, and the Guardian Angels, all in Kansas City. She enjoyed traveling and meeting new people, spending time with her loving family and many friends. She will be remembered for her gentle, kind soul.

She is survived by her son, Michael Galloway of Newton, and brother, Dennis H. Walker, also of Newton. Joyce has three grandchildren, including Michael B. Galloway of Glendale, Ariz., and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Nona Thomas; brother, Earl O. Walker; and two sisters, Jackie Cotton and Darlene Scott.

A gathering of remembrance will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel in Newton, with Pastor Glen C. Nelson Jr. of Halls Chapel AME Newton presiding. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, and the family will receive friends following the evening service. Private family burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Newton. Memorials are suggested to Kansas Christian Home, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
