Ireland, Orris R.

Orris Roland Ireland, 97, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2007. He was born May 1, 1909 near Bronson, son of Thomas F. and Zona A. Stroud Ireland. He was a graduate of Iola Junior College and the University of Kansas. He was a Certified Public Accountant who continued to do public accounting work until he was well into his 90's. For two years, he was a Scout Master of Valley Center Boy Scout Troop 494. He was a member of the Valley Center First United Methohdist Church where he held several leadership positions. For many years, he and his wife, Mona, distributed Meals on Wheels to elderly Valley Center residents.
During the years of the great depression, Orris worked for the Works Progress Administration in Rawlins County. There he met his future wife, Harriet Eleanor Brown, who he married on April 26, 1936. Harriet was killed in an auto accident in 1981.
Orris married Mona Goodno on July 10, 1982. She survives him. Orris is also survived by his son, Robert and wife, Grace, of Hanover, Indiana; son, James and wife Lynn of Valley Center and by his stepdaughter, Marcia Neufeld and husband, Leo of Wichita. He is alwo survived by numeroous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Orris enjoyed gardening and took pleasure in sharing his produce with his family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling, both in the united States and once to Europe.
Graveside services were held February 22 at hillside Cemetery, Sedgwick, Kansas.
