Obituary

Verda Mae McElwain, 91, Hutchinson, died Wednesday, January 10 at Hutchinson Hospital She was a former Burrton resident, moving to Hutchinson in 1990. She was born February 20, 1915 to Clarence Harrison and Estella Ann King Sanders. Both are deceased. She married Woodrow Wilson McElwain August 14, 1933 at Woodward, Oklahoma. He died December 28, 2006.

She was a former manager of the Kansas Brace and Limb Darlos Shoes, Hutchinson She was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church; Pleasant Grove Ladies Aid, rural Burrton and a member of the Burrton Saddle Club and the Halstead Saddle Club.

Survivors: daughter, Penny Ewert, Burrton; sister, June Grant, Aukland, New Zealand; 2 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; 2 step-granddaughters; 5 great grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother, Emma Sanders, brother Vestal "Bud" Sanders and sister, Norma McIlrath.

Services were held January 15 at Pleasant Grove United Methohdist Church. Burial was in Burrton Cemetery, Burrton, Kansas.
