Raymond Tolbert, 51, died on Monday (June 25, 2012) at his home in Newton.

He was born on March 12, 1961, in Halstead to Herbert and Anita (Townsend) Tolbert. He was a graduate of Newton High School and worked at AVCON Industries as a technician. Raymond was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed wrestling, baseball, fishing and especially the Pittsburgh Steelers football team. He loved his family and was known for his “teasing” ways. A close companion and friend of his was his dog, “Nirobi.” They are back together again.

He is survived by his mother, Anita Tolbert; brothers, Michael, Herbert, Leslie and Vernon Tolbert; aunt, Teresa Foster; children, AJ (Tolbert) Kingsley and Samuel “Tossie” Tolbert; and grandchild, Kimbrin Tolbert. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Theodore Tolbert; son, Preston Tolbert; and sister, Patricia Coleman-Tolbert.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday (July 2, 2012) at Petersen Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday (July 3, 2012) at Petersen Funeral Home. A committal service will be at Greenwood Cemetery following the service. A memorial has been set up for the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas and Western Missouri, in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
