Obituary

Ivan J. Schirer, 68, died February 22, 2008 in Halstead. He was born July 25, 1939 in Newton, son of Clarence Alvin and Gladys Faye Hackney Schirer. He was a lifetime farmer and cattleman and a retired teacher from the Newton school district and taught at Hutchinson Community College. On June 1, 1974, he married Joy Ann Smith in Newton. She died May 28, 1998.

Survivors: two sons, Michael, Farmington, N.M.; and Anthony, Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Teresea Jones, Shawnee and Angela Feleay, Topeka; three brothers, Marshall, Wichita; Keith, Newton and Robert, Lyons; sister, Eleanor Schirer, Newton; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grand children.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Faye Nicholas and Esther Smith.

Services were held Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Newton, with Pastor Larry Oyer presiding.
