Thomas Clayton Moulds, 89, of Halstead, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation Center in Halstead. He was born November 26, 1919 in Sedgwick, son of Robert E. and Clare M. Ropp Moulds. He graduated from Halstead High School in 1939. He married Ann Marese Phillips on April 25, 1942 in Newton. She survives of Halstead.
He worked as a pressman at the Newton Kansan and later in the composing room at the Wichita Eagle. Tom and Ann moved to California in 1959 where he attended mortuary school in Los Angeles. He had been a funeral director and embalmer for many years in California and was the owner of Ferrara & Moulds Colonial Mortuary in Orange, California until retiring in June 1980. They returned to Kansas in the summer of 1992.
Tom had been a member of the Presbyterian Church in Halstead; member of Newton Masonic Lodge No. 142; AF & AM; the Arkansas Valley Chapter No. 27 of the Royal Arch Masons; Hutchinson Council #13; Newton Commandery No. 9 of the York Rite and Isis Shrine in Salina; the Provost Guard Unit of Isis; the Harvey County Shrine Club; Ancient Toltec Rite in Topeka and the Newton Toltec Club.
Other survivors: brother, Dean Moulds, Wichita; two sisters, Kathryn Lamia, Kanopolis and Florence Bumm, Sedgwick. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald Moulds and Norman "BUck" Moulds; sisters Pauline Prine, Evelyn Becker; Eleanor Bennett and Geraldine Vogel.
Services were held Wednesday at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Newton.
