Melvin Fred Heubach, 74, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Kansas Christian Home in Newton. He was born February 28, 1936 in Norwich. He married Sheila J. Strange on July 17, 1955 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wichita. The couple were married for 54 years and Mrs. Heubach survives of the home.
He served in the U.S. Armu and was a successful insurance claims manager. He was a very artistic person. He wrote songs and played guitar and bass fiddle in Country, gospel and blue grass bands. He once played at the Art Festival in Springfield, Missouri at SMSU. After his retirement he continued to enjoy playing at senior centers and nursing homes.
He and his wife were forever changed in 2009 when they lost their only daughter, Kendra Kay Dukes. They adoted Kendra who was a Cherokee descent when she was 5 days old.
Survivors: wife, Shelia; sisters, Eleanor Kehl of Newton and David Gardner of Wichita and Wanita and Lee Brooks, Moore, Oklahoma; brother, Marvin and Bonnie Heubach of rural Sedgick, Paul W. Ross of Wheatland, Missouri and adopted grandchildren, Russell and Jessica Colby of Biloxi, Miss. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elma Connet and daughter.
Services were held last week.
