Abraham Dick was born in south Russia, December 5, 1843, emigrated to this country and settled at Newton July 4 1877, and 5 years later moved to the homestead where he died May 23, 1913 at 9 a.m. at the age of 70 years 5 months and 19 days, after being a sufferer from a lingering disease for almost 2 years.
The deceased was married in 1866 to Katherine Conrad, and to this union 7 children were born, the eldest of which died in infancy. The surviving relatives are a wife, 6 children Abe Dick Jr., John Dick and Mrs. Katherine Warkentine of Burrton Kansas, Frank Dick of East Las Vegas, New Mexico, Mrs. Anna Gerbrand of Buhler Kansas, and Mrs. Mary Drasser of Los Angeles California.
The funeral sermon was preached at the German Mennonite Church in Burrton Sunday May 25 by Rev. H. P. Krehbiel of Newton, and the remains were laid to rest in the Burrton Cemetery. Many old friends and neighbors attended the funeral and many came from the adjoining towns who had known the deceased in life.
