Anderson, John P.

Harvey County Independent

John P. Anderson, 94, died Thursday morning, September 13, 2012 after a short illness. at Hospice House in Hutchinson.

 He was born June 13, 1918 in Scammon, son of James and Edith Harrison Anderson.  He graduated from West Mineral High School, Weir City in 1936.  John served in the Army from 19942-1945.  He worked for eight years as a city bus driiver in Wichita; he then worked in the oil fields, and for 15 years he was the Meat Market manager at Burrton IGA Grocery Store.  He retired after 27 years as the Burrton Cemetery Sexton, at the age of 92.

John was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, Burrton., where he was an adult Sunday school teacher for over 25 years, He was the leader of closing exercises, in the choir, and ushered for many years.

On January 14, 1943 he Married Marie Collins  in Burrton.  She died July 12, 2008.

Survivors: two children, Janet Marie Creedon of Ottawa, Illinois and Phillip Ray Anderson and wife Teresa of Burleson, Texas; four granesons; three great grandnsons and one great granddaughter.  He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son, John Raymond Anderson, four brothers and one sister.

Celebration of Life Services were Sunday September 16 at the United Methodist Church in Burrton, Pastor Mike Graber presiding.  Burial was at Burrton Cemetery.
