Obituary

Rev. Christian Krehbiel, after a life of unusual usefulness died April 28, 1909 near Halstead.  He was born in Rhein Palatinate, Germany in 1832.  At 18 came to Ohio with parents, then to Iowa, to Illinois and to Halstead in 1879.  He married Susan Ruth in 1858.  For ten years he had an Indian Mission school on his farm.  From 1893 to his life's end his home was an Orphans home for an Orphans Society which he organized.  He organized the Halstead Mennonite Charity.  He established the Halstead Seminary.  On April 28th a heavy rolling barn door was lifted from its hinges by a strong wind and thrown upon him with such force as to fatally injure him.
