Bansemer, Emelia

Halstead Independent

Mrs. John Bansemer died at the family home on the Wiebe farm one mile west of town Wednesday Evening, June 5.  She had not been in good health for a year but her condition was not considered serious until a short time before the end came.  The cause being congestion of the brain or a blood clot.

The deceased was a native of West Prussia but she had lived in America about 40 years, 35 of which were spent on the farm where she died.  She was aged 64 years, 8 months.

Emelia Fleschner was born September 118, 1847 in Elbing, West Prussia, Geremany.  She was raised, educated and baptized in the Lutheran faith at that place.  She came to America in June 1869 and was married to John Bansemer at Rolla, Misssouri September 9th of the same year.

Shortly after she came to this country, her parents, two brothers and one sister emigrated to Russia and have been heard from but once, the letters to them have been returned unclaimed.

She came to the farm where she died one mile west of Halstead June 1, 1879.  She was taken into membership of the Presbyterian Church, June 25, 1893.  She was a sufferer for many years, but was always very much interested in the welfare of the community and continued active in the home.  This makes her unexpected and sudden death a heavy stroke to her loved ones and friends.

Her watchful eye has closed forever; her speech hushed in a moment.  She is deeply mourned by a sorrowing husband and children, but in memory she lives on to comfort and gladden their future days.

She was the mother of ten children and two grandchildren, a little child, the eldest boy, died in Missouri and one little girl and one little boy died in infancy in Kansas.

She is survived by a husband; four sons and three daughters.  The children are Robert, John, Herman and Edward, Mrs. Geoge Wise and the Misses Laura and Joanna.

Funeral services were held in the Mennonite Church conducted by her pastor Rev. Oliver assisted by Rev. Amstutz, who spoke in the German tongue.  Her remains were peacefully laid to rest in the Halstead Cemetery.
