Barnes, Charles

Sedgwick Pantagraph

Charles W. Barnes, one of the pioneers of the communiity, dropped dead while out with a fishing party on Little River near town last Monday afternoon.  He had been  downtown during the morning, and was in apparent in good health.  Later, the fishing party consisting of Mr. Barnes, R. H. Harvey , the two McDonough boys and one of Herman Fry's boys went over to the river.

One of the boys noticed that Mr. Barnes had fallen shortly after the party reached the river and called Mr. Harvey, who came to the stricken man at once, but Mr. Barnes breathed but one or two gasps after Mr. Harvey got to him.  Death was due to heart failure.  A doctor was summoned at once, but there was no need for his services, and the body was brought to town in an automobile at once.

The news of his death was quite a shock to the community and especiallyy so to the bereaved wife who has had more than a full measure of sorrow during the past few months.  The deceased was one of the pioneer settlers of this valley, coming here in the early 1870's.  He was a kind, good man who counted all who knew him as his friend.  The bereaved wife and sons have the sympathy of the entire community in their sudden and great affliction.
