Wilbur J. Schmidt, 95, passed away October 28, 2012, at Schowalter Villa, Hesston.
He was born October 27, 1917, in Harvey County, the son of C.J. and Mary Buller Schmidt. He was a retired farmer, and owner of three doughnut shops and Wib and Edna’s Kitchen in Newton. In 1941, he married Edna Nikkel at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church. She passed away in 1996. He then married Adeline Pauls in 1996. She passed away in 2001. Wilbur was a member of Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church in rural Inman, before transferring his membership to Whitestone Mennonite Church in Hesston.
He is survived by his daughters, Joyce Woods of Austin, Texas, and Jolene and husband, Tom Parmenter of Overland Park; brothers, Edwin J. and wife, Erma Schmidt of Buhler, Marvin and wife, Verda Schmidt of Inman, and Harlo and wife, Glennis Schmidt of Buhler; sisters, Elva and husband, Ed Kentfield of Hutchinson, and Laurene Reimer of Buhler; and one grandson, Shawn Newbins of Overland Park; and special friend, Leona Lehrman of Hesston. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna; and wife, Adeline; son, Jerald; brother-in-law, Joel Reimer; and son-in-law, Les Woods.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., with family present from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Miller-Ott Funeral Home in Hesston. Graveside services will be on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 9:30 a.m. at Hoffnungsau Church Cemetery, rural Inman, with memorial services to follow at 11 a.m. at Whitestone Mennonite Church, Hesston, with Pastor Wendy Miller officiating.
