Ruth Christine

Halstead Independent

Mrs. J. E. Ruth of Kingfisher, Oilahoma, former resident of Halstead, died at her home on Sunday morning after an illness of about a week.  She had been visiting here and taking sick started for her home Monday before her death.  The cause of her death was the prevailing epidemic of a kind of summer complaint.

Christine  Risser was born near Mansfield, Ohio, August 27, 1854, later moved to Summerfield, Illinois where she was married to J. E. Ruth in 1873, after which they moved to Halstead where they resided until 1886.  They then moved to Newton and about ten years ago located at Kingfisher.

She was a woman of kindly Christian character, was greatly beloved by all who knew her.  Her early death has cast a gloom over her large circle of acquaintances.  Here periodical visits to our city were always looked forward to with a great deal of pleasant anticipation and they will be greatly missed.

The remains wer brought here Monday evening and taken to the home of J. W. Ruth.  The funeral services were held from the Mennonite Church of which she had long been a member, Tuesday morning and the attendance was large showig the high esteem in which the deceased was held.  There were short sermons and eulogies by Rev. Krehbiel and Goerz, in German, and by Rev. Langewalter in English.  Music was furnished by a male quartette of friends from Newton.

She leaves three brothers, Jacob and Chris Risser of Halstead and Abe Risser of Ohio and  one sister, Mrs. John Lehman of Halstead.
