Female 1836 - 1908  (71 years)

Blackfan, Amanda T.

Halstead Independent

Mrs. Amanda T. Blackfan died at the home of her son, James, in this city, Halstead, Saturday afternoon after an illness of several weeks.  She had been very low for some days and the end came not unexpected.

She was born in Titusville, New Jersey, August 14, 1830 and was therefore nearly seventy-two years old.  She moved with her parents to Bucks, Co., Penn. in 1839 and in 1857 moved with the family to Henry county, Illinois, where she was married to Benjamin R. Blackfan who died on the farm southeast of town on November 3, 1893.  From this union two children were born, James T. Blackfan of this city and Mrs. Mary B. Quail of ElPaso, Texas, bothh of whom were present when their mother passed away.

She had been a resident of Halstead and vicinity for nearly 30 years and was a woman with many excellent traits of character which greatly endeared her to all who were so fortunate as to form her acquaintance and her death has cast a gloom over all who knew her.

Services were held from the Presbyterian Church Monday morning and conducted by Rev. John C. Berger.  Burial was in the Halstead cemetery in the family burial lot.  She was a sister of S. H. Trego, who is now the sole surviving memberof her family except for her two children.
