Ingalls, Maurice

Halstead Independent

Maurice Ingalls, born September 5, 1844 died June 21, 1909 at his home.  His sudden and untimely death has cast a gloom over the city of Halstead.  He was home alone at the time, taking a bath and was overcome by the fumes from a gas stove.  He was well and strong when the family members of the Ingalls family left home, to attend Sunday morniing service in their church. but upon their return found him.  The Santa Fe railroad  kindly issued an order stopping train No. 0 at Halstead which brought his sister, Miss Letta Ingalls home from her school in Topeka.  The young widow, nee Ada Williams, is a bride of only three months.  Her father and mother being in Portland, Oregon, could not be with their daughter in this her greatest sorrow.  Mr. & Mrs. Ingalls are thus so sadly bereft of their only son.

Maurice had a warm hjeart and unfailing broherliness.  Every man and woman for miles around Halstead was his friend.  He was 24 and a graduate of Kansas State University, the youngest pharmacisst registered in the state of Kansas.

The Methodist church was filled for the funeral and all the class rooms also.  A double quartet and the choir each sang.  A Masonic funeral service was performed.  Burial was in Halstead Cemetery.
