Stubby, Earl G.

The Newton Kansan

   Earl G. Stubby, 80, lost his long battle with lung cancer and passed away on October 22, 2012.  He was born July 5, 1932 on a farm near Canton to Jacob and Edna Unruh Stubby.  He attended country grade schools and graduated from Lehigh Rural High School in 1950.  He married Doris Seitz on April 20, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Newton.  They were married 56 plus years. Earl was drafted into the U.S. Army in Decemer 1951 and spent time in Korea after basic training.  In September 1953 he was released from active military service to the Army Reserve for a completion of an additional eight years.

   He returned to Kansas Gas and Electric where he worked in the Newton and ElDorado line departments for more than 39 years and retired in 1990.  He loved retirement and working on his many projects at his country property near Goessel.  He took pride in his restored tractors and other farm hobbies.  He raised a big garden that he enjoyed eating and sharing with family and friends.

   He loved to polka dance and listen to music.  He was a life member of the American Legion and VFW in Newton.

   Survivofs: wife, Doris Stubby of Newton; sons, Martin and wife, Patti of Aurora, Colorado and Michael Stubby of Newton; daughter, Cidera and husband, Anthony Spencer, Newton; 4 granddaughters; one great grandaughter; brothers, Donovan, Gilmer, Loren, Rodney and Jerry Stubby; sisters Janet Hubbard and Helen Saylor.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lila Wasemiller.

   Services were held at Petersen  Funeral home with Military Honors at Greenwood Cemetery.
