Marion L. Schmidt, 96, of Hesston, died at Newton Medical Center Wednesday, October 24, 2012. She was born on January 18, 1916 in Lowell Mass. to Percy and Beatrice Gould Peavey. Her parents had five children; four daughters and one son.
Marion was raised in Maine and later moved to California, where whe met and married Joohn Kenneth Schmidt on June 8k 1944 in Long Beach, California. After the war, they moved to Idaho and later to Kansas. Their union produced two children; Sandra and Douglas.
Marion liked to crochet and paint. She was a wondeerful seamstress and made clothes for the grandchildren on special occasions. One of her passions was horseback riding. She and her daughter, Sandra, often rode together. She was an original "bling cowgirl' with outfits that had lots of bling and embrodery.
She loved caring for children and ran a day care center in her home for many years. She was a wonderful grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Sandra and Robert Fraser of Douglas and Susie Schmidt and a sister, Frances Lester; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents, Percy and Beatrice Peavey; sisters, Elinore and June; brother, John and a grandson Christopher.
Funeral services were Friday, October 26, 2012 at Petersen Funeral Home, Newton. Petersen Funeral Home had charge of the arrangements.
