Shirley Ellen Flickinger of Newton passed away November 12, 2012. She was born August 24, 1947 to Bill and Norma Brown in Burns. She was the first of three children. She attended Newton Schools through high school. Shirley married Ron Flickinger on April 2, 1965 in Newton.
Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, coordinating meals for the homeless shelter, sewing, crafting and spending time with her family. She enjoyed traveling and having vacation trips to Florida, Colorado, South Dakota, Oregon and Washington.
Shirley worked at Capital Federal, Sally Mae and Newton Public Golf Course. She was also an interpreter in sign language for Allen Elementary School in Wichita and interpreted for the deaf at other various functions.
Survivors: husband, Ron of the home; sons, Michael Flickinger of Newton; Ryan Flickinger and wife, Tonya of Newton; her daughter, Stacey Weihe and husband, Jeff of Valley Center; 6 grandchildren;; brother, Mike Brown of Newton and brother Bill Brown of Miami, Florida. She is also survived by Robert Schultz and wife, Patricia of Wichita and Sandra Entz of Eureka.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Norma Brown; stepmother, Virginia Brown.
Services will be Friday, November 16 at First Baptist Church in Newton. A sign language interpreter wil be provided. Interment will be in the Halstead Cemetery.
